Natalie (Barnes) Smith

Natalie (Barnes) Smith, 90, died at the Brookhaven Nursing Center in Lexington, MA on Sunday, February 9.

Before moving to Brookhaven in 1994, she had been a resident of Camillus for 45 years.

She was the wife of the late Kenneth W. Smith, and daughter of the late Burr and Helene Barnes of Auburn, NY

She was born on the family farm in Scipio, NY and grew up in Auburn. A graduate of Auburn Academic High School, she also studied with Auburn artist Frank Barney. She enjoyed gardening, painting, travel, and her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Umans and son-in-law Peter Umans of Lexington, MA; two grandchildren, Christopher M. Umans of Pasadena, CA, and Kate E. Umans of Ann Arbor, MI; a sister-in-law, Ona C. Smith of Syracuse; two nephews, Leonard C. Smith of Syracuse and David W. Smith of Auburn, and their families.

Memorial services will be Saturday, February 15, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel United Methodist Church.

Burial will be in Fort Hill Cemetery, Auburn.

Donations in her memory may be made either to Hospice Care, Inc., 41 Montvale Ave., Stoneham, MA 02180 or

Immanuel United Methodist Church, 303 Kasson Road, Camillus, NY 13031 to support the projects of the Elizabeth Circle.
