William G. Smith

William Griffin ''Doc'' Smith, 69, of Baldwinsville died Monday, January 20, 2003.

Born in Syracuse, he had lived in Camillus until 1998 before moving to Baldwinsville. He graduated from Camillus High School in 1951 where he played football, basketball, and baseball. After graduation he was offered a baseball position with the farm team Houston Colts. After the season he entered the U.S. Navy serving during Korean War. He also was a boxing at the time and finished with a record of 18-1. While in the military he attended North Carolina State University and after his service ended he attended Syracuse University.

He retired in 1992 as a painter for Onondaga County after 12 years. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Smith was survived by his wife of 42 years, the former Betty J. Markle; a son, Christopher M. Smith of New Castle, Del.; a granddaughter, Alexandria M. Smith and several nieces and nephews.

Services were Monday at B.L. Bush & Sons Funeral Home.

Calling hours were 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 10 Genesee St., Camillus.
