Emmet C. Stopher

Emmet Carson Stopher, III, 79 of Westvale passed away Thursday, April 4, 2019 at St. Camillus. Born in Ashland, OH the family moved to the area in 1960’s. Emmet graduated from SUNY Oswego with a Master’s and began teaching right after for the Syracuse City Schools where he was a teacher at Shea Middle School for 30 years before retiring in 1995. He was a member of West Genesee Jaycees, American Legion Knifetown Post #1540, Fairmount Community Church, United Church of Christ, Camillus Elks Lodge and the Camillus Ski Hill where he was past president and extraordinary volunteer. He served in the Army National Guard and enjoyed camping, woodworking and reading. Emmet was predeceased by a sister Margaret Stopher Shoenfelt Kirsch. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Gail Frankland Stopher; a daughter Amy (John) Browka of Colorado; a son Todd (Dianna) Stopher of Oswego; a brother John (Jane) of Syracuse; a sister Patricia (Garry) Mitchell of N. Mexico; eight grandchildren; Gabrielle (Kurt) Decker, Krysia Browka, Joshua Stopher, John Walter Browka, Klara Browka, Marty Earl, Jenna Earl, Adam Earl; three great-grandchildren Lucas Lollman, Alaina Lollman and Madilyn Decker; a brother-in-law David Frankland of Utica; many nieces and nephews. Calling hours are May 14th from 4 to 7 pm at B.L. Bush & Sons Funeral Home, 10 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be May 15th at 11 am at Fairmount Community Church, UCC, 126 S. Terry Road, Syracuse, NY 13219. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
