Ruth (Miller) Burr

August 3, 2004

Ruth (Miller) Burr 88, died Tuesday in Vancouver, WA. She was born in 1915 in Drifton, PA and spent much of her adult life in Syracuse before moving to Vancouver. She was a Registered Nurse who did graduate work in New York City, and then later, a dedicated and longtime volunteer for the Red Cross, Scouting and the Well Baby Clinic. As a member of Robinson Memorial Church in Syracuse, she founded and led the Women's Chorus for 20 years, as well as participating in all types of volunteer church work. After the death of her husband, Harold, in 1976, she became President of his company, Strathmore Products, until 1979 when she moved to Vancouver. In between world travels and family visits, she pursued her favorite hobby, baking, to the enjoyment of her family, friends and the residents of Shorewoood West and Glenwood Place. Ruth was a dedicated mom and grandmother, known by many with affection and love as "Jajja". She is survived by her son Tom Burr and his wife, Marlene, of Pompey, and her three daughters Barbara Dechet and her husband, George, of Vancouver; Priscilla Burr and her husband, Ray Fowler, of The Redlands, FL; and Ginger Burr of LaCenter, WA; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters and their husbands, Bert and Mike Hatcher and Dot and Fred Magley, a sister-in-law, Helen Burr, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her extended family, and especially her grandchildren and their cousins will always remember many Julys spent together at the Shore in Stone Harbor, NJ because of her generosity. This was her greatest legacy to her family. Private services and burial in Amber Cemetery in Marietta, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Robinson Memorial Church, 126 Terry Road Syracuse, NY 13219. Arrangements by the B.L. Bush & Sons Funeral Home, 10 Genesee St., Camillus.
