Barbara Pedati

Barbara Pedati, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, at the age of 91. Born Barbara Galvin on March 17, 1934, to Agnes and Roger, she was raised in a warm and loving home alongside her two younger brothers, Robert and Allen, her older sister, Constance, and older brother Roger. At the age of 17, Barbara met Joseph Anthony Pedati; they married and welcomed their cherished son, Brian David. Barbara’s proudest role was caring for her family, a commitment she embraced with love and devotion. Barbara spent most of her life in New Jersey—first in the city, where she raised her son, and later by the shore. There she enjoyed coastal living in a close-knit retirement community, where she participated in group activities and formed deep friendships. She valued her Catholic faith deeply, finding strength, comfort, and purpose in her church and her service to God. Barbara was strong-willed and sharp-witted, with a sarcastic sense of humor and an almost magical way of knowing things before you told her. She delighted in simple pleasures: a crisp Diet Coke, a slice of cake, listening to the radio, and flipping through old and new photographs of family and friends. She especially treasured her close bond with her sister-in-law, Carol, and the love she shared with Carol’s children and grandchildren. Although her siblings passed before her, Barbara leaves behind her beloved son Brian and her three granddaughters, all of whom she adored beyond measure. She also leaves many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness, humor, and unwavering love. Barbara’s life was defined by her generosity, her faith, and her ability to make others feel valued. In her final months, the care she had given so freely throughout her life was returned to her by family and friends who were honored to love and support her. A Mass celebrating Barbara’s life will be held on September 6, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Veronica’s Catholic Church, 3460 Centreville Rd, Chantilly, VA 20151.
