Joan S. Conley

Joan Conley of Camillus, NY and Marco Island/Naples, FL passed away peacefully on June 3, 2023 surrounded by her loving family and incredible caregivers. She was born August 23, 1929 in Middletown, CT, the daughter of Arnold and Mary Story. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Farrar Conley, and her two sisters Barbara Brown and Jane Plitt. Joan graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Middletown, CT, and Hartford Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a pediatric registered nurse at Crouse Hospital and was instrumental in the Crouse Spina Bifida Clinic for many years. Joan lived a life of caring and giving to others. Once retired from nursing, she volunteered her time to many organizations including the Onondaga County Health Department, Rabies and Flu Shot Clinics, and Senior Wellness. She was a founding member of the ECHO Meals on Wheels in Camillus. While in Florida, she spent time serving migrant children through a program called Bedtime Bundles. Joan also volunteered at Collier County Habitat for Humanity. Joan and Bob were founding and lifelong members of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Camillus. In addition, they were active members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Marco Island, FL. Their lives centered around the churches and their mission of community service. She is survived by her three children; David (Beth) Conley of Rye, NY, Alison (John) Sexton of Marietta, NY and Richard (Alison) Conley of Marcellus, NY and grandchildren Laura Sexton Marra (John), Brendan (Rebecca) Conley, Christy (Ian) Conley, Nathaniel (Lyssa) Sexton, Megan Conley, Kara Conley, and Sean Conley. Joan was blessed with six great-grandchildren; Jameson and Camden Sexton, Rory and Maeve Conley, Dylan MacColl and Hayley Marra. The family would like to thank the incredible caretaking team for providing love and support for Joan. Joan was a loving friend, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who touched all of our lives and will be truly missed. She will live on in our hearts. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 10 am at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 5402 West Genesee Street, Camillus. A private burial will take place at the Onondaga County Veterans’ Cemetery. Arrangements by B.L. Bush & Sons Funeral Home, Camillus.
