Joseph "Jody" Maressa

Joseph John “Jody” Maressa, 73, of Clifton Springs, passed away unexpectedly on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2023. Born in Newark, he graduated from Newark High School, and later from SUNY Brockport. He was a long-time member of the Laborers Local 103 out of Geneva, where he spent many years on construction projects. Prior to that he was a middle school science teacher. He was a master of his hands – woodworking, gardening, sewing, fishing, welding, plumbing, cooking, and hunting (best venison patties in all of Upstate). When he wasn’t working with his hands, he also loved birdwatching, walking, and reading. Jody loved to invent things, ranging from outdoor lawn games, to mock wolf eyes to scare off geese, to his improved fly swatter, the “Swifter Squisher.” Other interests include music concerts, Formula 1, and the weather. Jody also had great Italian hospitality, inviting friends and family over for dinner or lawn parties. He liked trading jokes with his best friends Tom Muscolino and Bob Kahabka, attending family reunions, and of course bragging about his daughter Joanna Claire. He was predeceased by his parents John Francis Maressa, Josephine Mary (Coluzzi) Maressa, and his brother Dr. John Francis Maressa Jr. in 2022. He is survived by his loving daughter, Joanna Claire Maressa, whom he adored; his two brothers, Jerome Michael Maressa and James Michael Maressa; his former wife Cynthia Maressa Hill; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 6th at 11 am at the Order Sons of Italy in America, 31 Prospect Ave., Geneva. Feel free to bring stories to share and photos for the display table. All are encouraged to share memories, both the serious and lighthearted. Everyone who knew Jody would understand that he wouldn’t want everything to be too serious.
