Mary (Cebrick) Sobeck

Mary (Cebrick) Sobeck, 92, of Swoyersville, passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, June 24, 2008, at Hospice Care of the VNA, Inpatient Unit, Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Albert Sobeck, who passed away in May 1996. Mary and Albert spent 40 years in Florida, moving there in 1958 from New Jersey. Mary moved back to Swoyersville in 2004, becoming a resident at Tiffany Court, Kingston, for three years after living with her sister for one year. Born in Swoyersville on January 22, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Wasil and Anastasia Hvaboska Cebrick. Mary spent her early years on the family farm in Swoyersville. She attended Swoyersville schools. She was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Swoyersville. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Mary was one of 12 children. She was preceded in death by brothers Thomas, Charles, John, Michael and Stephen; sisters Christine Staskiewicz and Anna Stesney. Mary was the loving mother of Robert A. and his wife, Elizabeth Sobeck, Vero Beach, Fla.; and the loving, devoted grandmother of Gregg R. Sobeck, M.D., Sherman Oakes, Calif.; and Stephanie Sobeck Butera and her husband, John, Melbourne, Fla. She is also survived by brothers Paul Cebrick and A. Henry Cebrick, both of Swoyersville; sisters Rose Stankiewicz and Louise Stacy, both of Mountainside, N.J. The Sobeck family would like to extend their deepest appreciation and gratitude to the many devoted employees of Tiffany Court who so thoughtfully cared for Mary over the years, and also the wonderful staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Hospice Care of the VNA, Heritage House, who were so caring during Mary’s final days. Funeral services with Panachida for Mrs. Mary Sobeck will be conducted on Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Wroblewski Funeral Home Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by An Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 271 Tripp Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend G. Scott Boghossian, her pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Dallas. Family and friends may call today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Parastas will be conducted this evening at 6:30 pm.
