Barton L. Bush Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Barton L. Bush, 73, born February 2,1878 for many years a funeral director and one time president of the Jordan Bank, died March 30, 1951 at Elbridge, NY after an illness of three years. He moved to Jordan in 1904, where he entered the funeral business acquired from the late John Brastow. His business career was varied. He became interested in photography and operated a successful business in which he had photographers covering the state taking pictures of points of interest. In a shop in Jordan the pictures were printed on post cards for sale. With the advent of World War I and the embargo on German chemicals, he was forced to give up the business and entered the piano business, soon following with furniture and the phonograph. He operated the Safford-Bush Co. in Camillus and in 1927 he and an associate H.S.Mann, opened the Bush-Mann store and funeral business in Clyde, New York. At that time his son, Kenneth L. Bush, became a partner in the Jordan and Camillus interests. He also had been a partner with John Robertson at Wolcott New York, operating a store and funeral business under the name of Bush-Robertson Co. As his health began to fail, Mr. Bush gave up his Clyde and Wolcott interests and devoted his entire time to the presidency of the Jordan National Bank until its purchase by the Merchants National Bank in 1934. In 1935, B. Keith Bush became a partner in the B.L. Bush & Sons funeral Home and operated the Camillus Home. Mr. Bush's first wife, Mrs. Jennie L. Felter Bush, died May 27,1943. Interested in the civic and political life of the town and village Mr. Bush was active in the Republican party until recent years. He served as village trustee, president and member of the School Board, trustee of the village library and also was active in the Community Chest, bond drives, wartime volunteer agencies and was a chief and member of the volunteer fire department. He was a member and past master of Jordan Lodge 386, FA&AM and was a member of Skaneateles Lodge of Royal Arch Masons, Salem Town Commandery of Knights Templar, Jordan Masonic Club, of which he was past president, Jordan Fish & Game Club and Jordan Chamber of Commerce. FIRE DEPARTMENT MEMBER He was a member and past noble grand of Jordan Lodge, IOOF. a director of the Camillus Bank, a member of the Onondaga County Volunteer Firemen's Association. the Exempt Firemen's Association, Northern Central Volunteer Firemen's Association, Onondaga County Funeral Directors Association, New York State and National Funeral Directors Associations, Tigris Temple, AAONMA, and the Past Masters Association, Onondaga District. CHURCH TRUSTEE He was a superintendent of Maple Grove Cemetery Association for 13 years and was a trustee of Jordan Methodist Church. He was a member of Ontavia Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruth Fisk (Bamford) Bush; a daughter Mrs. Edwin P. Holt of Jordan; two sons, Kenneth L. Bush of Jordan and B. Keith Bush of Camillus; nine grand children; a brother Burdette Bush of LaFayette, New York, and a stepson, Harold Bamford of Oswego, New York. Friends are invited to call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM today and tomorrow at the home. Private services will be at 10 AM Monday at the family home on Main Street, Jordan, New York, the Rev. Harold Steer officiating, assisted by the Rev. Gordon Carter. Burial will be in LaFayette Rural Cemetery, LaFayette, New York.
