Mark L. Ashby

Mark L. Ashby, 51, of Volney, NY, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at his home. He was born on December 13, 1973, in Auburn, NY, to Mark Ashby and Diana Bower. Mark grew up in Warners, NY. He joined the wrestling team in 1988 and was very successful at it until his graduation from West Genesee High School in 1992 with a 4.0 GPA. He furthered his education at SUNY Morrisville where he also maintained a 4.0, earning a degree in Landscape Design. Because landscaping is seasonal work, Mark later worked as a pipefitter and welder before establishing his own business, Preferred Mechanical Systems. Mark was incredibly proud to work alongside his son, Collin, who joined the business after graduating from high school. He was happy to teach Collin the trade and was thrilled that his son chose to follow in his footsteps. Mark was a dedicated parent, fostering a strong bond with his son, Collin, and with his grandson Ryder. He maintained a close relationship with his own father as well, and it was a privilege to witness the four generations together. While deeply committed to his mechanical business, Mark’s passion for landscape work remained throughout his life. He found the industry highly competitive and challenging due to its seasonal nature, but he continued to take on select projects, creating beautiful landscapes and leaving lasting impressions with his work. Mark was a true lover of the outdoors. He enjoyed boating, jet skiing, and fishing, finding peace and happiness in nature’s beauty. His commitment to his family was evident in everything he did; he was the first to help when help was needed. Mark’s sister, Kristina, fondly recalled how he dropped everything to assist her when she was considering a house purchase, an act that reflected his generosity and devotion to his family. Although Mark left us far too soon, his memory will live on in the hearts and memories of all those who were lucky enough to know and love him. He was predeceased by his mother, Diana. He is survived by his son, Collin; beloved grandson, Ryder; his father, Mark; his stepfather, John Bower; siblings, Kristina and Shane; and stepbrother, David Bower; and Ryder's mother Maria Dunsmoor. He will be deeply missed by his large extended family and many friends, and all who knew him for his unwavering support, strong work ethic, and kindness. Calling hours will be on Saturday, April 26th from 1 to 3 pm at B.L. Bush & Sons Funeral Home, 10 Genesee St., in Village of Camillus. Private services will be held. A celebration of Life will be planned for this Summer.
