William F. Tank

William F. Tank passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Saturday January 24th, just seven days after the passing of his beloved wife of 54 years, Lois. William (Bill) was born November 24th, 1949 to Roy Francis Tank Jr. and Marie Elizabeth Clark in Syracuse, New York. He was raised in Fairmount, while also spending time at his family’s camps in the Adirondacks and at the St Lawrence River. He attended West Genesee where he met Lois, before studying at Paul Smith’s College. Bill and Lois were married in 1971 and initially lived in Camillus while he began working for New York Telephone Company. They moved to Skaneateles Lake in 1975, where they renovated a camp into a beautiful family home based on his vision. He and Lois later enjoyed retirement in Venice Island, Florida and with dear friends at the Red Jacket Yacht Club on Cayuga Lake. Bill was deeply social in nature and cherished summers in the Skaneateles Lake cove (in the water, surrounded by friends, always with a great tan), barbequing his famous chicken for as many friends as possible (a process that required several Coors Lights to complete), cooking giant breakfasts (including his home fries made from leftover Salt Potatoes), and traveling with friends and family anywhere with sunshine and sand. Bill enjoyed nature; fishing for trout, hunting deer, watching birds, and raising raccoons. He meticulously maintained everything he ever owned including a love of his homes, lawns, boats, Corvettes, Harley Davidsons, guns, campsites and even tractors. Bill is predeceased by his parents and brother Roy Tank, III. He is survived by his daughter Heather Niland, son Trevor (Stacey) Tank, grandchildren Tobey Niland, Jackson Tank, and Crosby Tank, as well as several nieces and nephews. He’ll always be remembered for pouring his heart into everything he did, and his welcoming smile and fantastic stories will be deeply missed.
